Just how to do you give a new voice to Winnie the Pooh, particularly when everyone is used to the voices in the animated cartoons and movies?
As an audiobook narrator, what do you do when asked to create voices for the first authorized Pooh sequel in 80 years? Talk about pressure!
Jim Dale, when asked how he came up with the character voices for the new Winnie the Pooh audiobook, "Return to the Hundred Acre Wood," reveals, "(You) have to create something that the writer wants you to do. He gives you a description of what the character looks like and possibly, what he sounds like, 'He has a wheezy voice,' et cetera. When I was doing all of the Harry Potter voices, I couldn't think of those characters in the films, I had to create and see the world through the actual eyes of every character in the book, so you have to create your own voices and hopefully the kids will appreciate what I've done with these."
Also, hear how the late British actress, Dame Edith Evans, inspired the voice of the newest character in the series, Lottie the Otter.
