Military Family Public Service Announcement

I received a personal invitation from a client via Voices.com to submit an audition for a public service announcement called "Month of the Military Family." They also had it open for general submissions.

A short while later, I received this message from them:

"Out of 120 replies, your audition was the most fitting for this project. I would love to work with you on this, if you're up for it."

Up for it?! Of course! I love doing this type of work! Being able to voice just about anything is great... but I really enjoy it when I get to lend my voice to something that has a purpose, product or perspective that I truly believe in.

Such was the case here.

My brother returned from a year in Iraq this past July and I understand the importance of families and friends standing behind our loved ones in the armed forces. I'm very proud to be a part of this campaign and I'm thankful for the opportunity which was extended to me through Voices.com.

Just how to do you give a new voice to Winnie the Pooh, particularly when everyone is used to the voices in the animated cartoons and movies?

As an audiobook narrator, what do you do when asked to create voices for the first authorized Pooh sequel in 80 years? Talk about pressure!

Jim Dale, when asked how he came up with the character voices for the new Winnie the Pooh audiobook, "Return to the Hundred Acre Wood," reveals, "(You) have to create something that the writer wants you to do. He gives you a description of what the character looks like and possibly, what he sounds like, 'He has a wheezy voice,' et cetera. When I was doing all of the Harry Potter voices, I couldn't think of those characters in the films, I had to create and see the world through the actual eyes of every character in the book, so you have to create your own voices and hopefully the kids will appreciate what I've done with these."

Also, hear how the late British actress, Dame Edith Evans, inspired the voice of the newest character in the series, Lottie the Otter.
